Overview
Omnipod® Simplify Life has launched Omnipod DASH® Insulin Management System to reduce the complexity of insulin therapy. The Omnipod DASH® Insulin Management System consists of two parts; The tubeless pod and another is the Portable Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM).
Our client’s requirement was to build a multilingual web application that would provide a virtual demo of the PDM device. Likewise, Mind Digital Group’s highly qualified and experienced developers and designers have successfully developed the Omnipod DASH® PDM Web Application. The virtual web application that we developed will allow users to get a feel of how to operate the PDM device without actually owning the device itself. The web application allows users to take the following approach.
- Initial setup: For patients who want to configure Omnipod DASH®System Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM) for the first time.
- Everyday use: It allows patients & doctors to explore PDM’s key elements and functions including last bolus, last blood glucose unit (last BG), bolus calculator setting, active basal program, & getting the pod info (how much unit left in the reservoir) without going through the initial set-up process.
This tailor-developed solution offers an exceptional experience of the PDM device. Patients and doctors both can easily get a comprehensive idea of how the Omnipod DASH® Insulin Management Device works.
The virtual PDM web application is only for demonstration purposes. It is not intended to be used for therapeutic decision-making. This web application represents every function of Omnipod DASH® PDM on an “As-Is” basis. Hence, it is not recommended to substitute the Omnipod DASH® PDM web application with the Omnipod DASH®System user guide.
Challenge
- Omnipod had no provision of showcasing a demo of the Omnipod DASH® PDM device & it’s features. Users had to order the device to experience it.
- A real-world experience for the PDM device was requested by the Omnipod team in the form of a web application.
- We had to understand & implement the relevant features & calculations as seen in the actual PDM device in the web application that we developed for them.
Solution
As their IT partner, Mind Digital Group identified all of these challenges and came-up with solutions for each of the above-mentioned constraints.
- With a well-defined process we successfully developed the multilingual web application in React JS.
- The virtual application was made available in various languages such as English, Dutch, French, German & many more.
- To handle the various language translations, React -i18 Next plugin was used. It comes with essential components to ensure the required translation gets loaded or the existing content in the application gets rendered when the language changes. We did not use Google translator for this feature.
- As the web application is made for illustration or demonstration purposes, we considered every subtle element of Omnipod DASH® PDM, from calculations to necessary blood glucose parameters, that would bring a solid virtual experience for it’s users.
Result
- Now Omnipod®DASH Insulin Management System has a central multilingual web application to feature their PDM workflow. The virtual demo can be experienced in four different languages: UK English, Dutch, German, and French. Other languages can be added as required.
- The web application functions as a ground-breaking solution with a high level of precision. Now Omnipod’s Healthcare Experts can easily demonstrate the overall workflow of the insulin management system to their target audience through this web application.
- The web application that we developed mimics an actual PDM device and gives it’s users a real world experience without owning the actual PDM device. The web application loads-up in no time in any web browser or device making it highly interactive.
