Why is Your UAE Business Website NOT Attracting Customers? 10 SEO Problems to Check
Most of the sites we get sent for a second opinion are not broken. That’s the frustrating part. They load, they look reasonable, somebody spent real money on them, and they produce almost nothing.
The owner usually arrives with one of two theories: Google hates us, or the last agency did nothing. Occasionally both are true. Far more often the site has four or five specific, boring faults, each of which costs a bit of visibility, and together they add up to a business that is effectively invisible for the searches that matter.
Here are the ten we find most often in Dubai and across the wider UAE, roughly in the order of how much damage they do. Work down the list with your own site open. Most of these you can check yourself in an afternoon, without buying a tool.
1. You rank for your company name and nothing else
Open Google Search Console, go to Performance, and sort your queries by clicks. If the top ten are all your brand name and variations of it, you don’t have an SEO problem — you have no SEO at all. You’re being found by people who already knew you existed.
That’s the single most common diagnosis, and it’s the one owners resist the hardest, because traffic looks fine in Analytics. A thousand sessions a month feels healthy until you notice 780 of them typed your name in.
Non-brand queries are the whole game. “Villa maintenance company Dubai Marina”, “HR software for UAE payroll”, “orthodontist Al Barsha” — those are people who don’t know you yet. If you have a handful of those in your top fifty, there’s your answer.
2. Your pages target words nobody in the UAE actually types
This one hurts because it usually comes from someone trying to be clever.
Companies here write pages around the language they use internally — “integrated facility solutions”, “end-to-end procurement enablement” — while their buyer types “AC maintenance company in Dubai” or “office fit out cost Dubai”. The page might be excellent. It answers a question nobody asked.
There’s a local layer on top of that. UAE search mixes English and Arabic, often in the same household and sometimes in the same session. Transliteration is inconsistent — Al Barsha, Albarsha, Barsha; Jumeirah and Jumeira; JLT far more common than the full name of the cluster. Emirate names get dropped entirely by people who assume Dubai. And a large expat population searches in the idiom of wherever they’re from, so “flat” and “apartment” both matter, and so does “villa”, which means something specific here and nothing in most markets.
Use the actual data. Search Console’s query report shows what people already type to reach you. Google Business Profile insights show search terms for the local pack. Then check the autocomplete and People Also Ask boxes on a UAE IP, not a VPN.
3. Your Google Business Profile is half-finished or has the wrong phone number
For anything with a physical location or a service area, the local pack sits above the organic results and takes most of the clicks. Yet the profile is usually an afterthought: one category, no services listed, four photos from 2021, no posts, and a phone number that doesn’t match the site.
Name, address and phone consistency is a direct local ranking input, and it is astonishingly easy to get wrong in the UAE, where a company might list a DMCC address on the site, a Business Bay address on LinkedIn, and a landline on the profile that was disconnected when they moved. Pick one exact string for each and make it identical everywhere: your site footer, GBP, Clutch, LinkedIn, Bing Places, every directory that has you listed.
While you’re in there: choose the most specific primary category available, list services individually, add real photos of the premises and the team, and answer reviews. Google’s own Business Profile guidelines are worth twenty minutes.
4. You have one page trying to rank for six services
A single “Services” page listing everything you do will rank for none of it. Google needs a page it can point at for each thing a person wants.
The fix is unglamorous: one page per service, each with its own URL, its own title, its own proof and its own price orientation. If you do interior fit-out, joinery and MEP, that’s three pages, not three sections. If you serve Dubai and Abu Dhabi from separate offices with separate teams, that may be six.
The caveat, because this gets abused: location pages only work when they contain something real — that branch’s address, its team, its projects, its phone number. Twelve near-identical pages with the emirate name swapped is a recognisable pattern and it has been getting sites into trouble for years.
5. The site is slow on the phone, in a way you never see
You test on a laptop, on office fibre, on a well-cached second visit. Your customer opens it on a mid-range Android on mobile data somewhere between Deira and Sharjah.
Run your top three pages through PageSpeed Insights and look only at the mobile tab and only at the field data — the numbers from real users, not the lab score. The metric most people are failing now is INP, which measures how quickly the page responds when someone taps something. Slow INP usually means too much JavaScript, and too much JavaScript usually means a theme carrying eleven plugins nobody has audited since launch.
Speed rarely wins rankings on its own. It loses them by attrition, because a person who bounces in three seconds teaches Google something about your page every single time.
We had one retail client go from a PageSpeed score of 9 to 90 on mobile. Nothing about their content changed. Everything about their numbers did.
6. Your title tags are keyword soup from 2016
Go and look at the blue links on a Google results page for your main service. Then look at yours.
Titles like Best SEO Services Dubai | SEO Company Dubai | SEO Agency UAE | Top SEO Dubai are still everywhere in this market. They get truncated, they get rewritten by Google, and they read to a human as spam. Meta descriptions are often worse — either missing, or the same sentence duplicated across forty pages.
One clear proposition and the market, in sentence case. That’s it. The description isn’t a ranking factor but it is an advertisement, and on a page where you’re competing with the local pack, an AI summary and four ads, the click is what you’re actually fighting for.
7. Nothing on the site proves you exist as a real business
This matters more every year, and it matters disproportionately for agencies, clinics, law firms and anyone else selling expertise.
Check your own site for: named authors on blog posts with photos and credentials, not “Admin”. A team page with actual people. Trade licence details. A physical address that resolves on a map. Case studies with numbers in them, not just logos. Reviews you didn’t write.
The logo wall is the classic UAE failure. Eight enterprise clients across the top of the homepage, and not one sentence anywhere about what was done for them or what happened as a result. To a buyer, that’s decoration. To a search engine trying to work out whether you’re a credible source, it’s nothing at all.
And this is now the deciding factor in whether AI answers mention you. When ChatGPT or Google’s AI Overview assembles a response to “best SEO services Dubai“, it leans on third-party corroboration — directories, reviews, press, roundups — because it treats your own site as a self-interested witness. If your entity facts are inconsistent across the web, you don’t get assembled into the answer.
8. Your blog is 60 posts of nothing
Publishing was the easy part. Someone briefed a writer, the writer produced “Top 10 Benefits of Digital Marketing in Dubai”, and it went out weekly for a year.
Ask two questions of each post. Does it contain a single fact that couldn’t have been written by someone who has never been to the UAE? And does it link, with a descriptive anchor, to the page that actually sells something?
Usually the answer to both is no. That’s not a content programme, it’s a pile. Thin, duplicative posts don’t just fail individually — they dilute what the site as a whole looks like it’s about.
Unpopular opinion: most UAE business blogs would rank better with twelve posts than with sixty. Consolidate the near-duplicates into one good page, redirect the rest, and spend the saved budget on three pieces a quarter that contain original information — your pricing, your data, your numbers, your worked examples.
9. Your pages are orphans
Click through your site the way a visitor would. How many clicks from the homepage to your highest-value service page? If it’s more than three, or if the only route is through the main navigation, your internal linking is doing nothing.
Internal links are how you tell Google which of your pages matters and what it’s about. A blog post about Ramadan campaign timing that links to your PPC page with the anchor text “Ramadan PPC management” does more for that page than a month of outreach.
Also check for the obvious technical version of this: pages blocked in robots.txt, noindex tags left over from a staging site, canonical tags pointing at the homepage. We find a leftover site-wide noindex from a launch maybe twice a year, and the relief in the room when we do is something to see.
10. You changed the site and nobody planned the redirects
A redesign that drops URLs without 301s is the fastest way to delete years of work. Traffic falls off a cliff four to six weeks later, by which time everyone has stopped connecting it to the launch and has started blaming the market.
If your traffic dropped and you can name a month when the site changed, start there. Crawl the old URL list, map every one to its closest new equivalent, redirect one-to-one where possible, and don’t dump everything on the homepage.
The same applies to platform migrations, moving from a .ae domain to a subfolder, or consolidating regional sites. Plan the mapping before anyone touches the design.
What to do with this list
Don’t fix all ten. Score them.
For each one, write down two things: how bad it is, and how hard it is to fix. The GBP phone number, the leftover noindex, the duplicated meta descriptions — those are an afternoon. The service page split and the content consolidation are a quarter. Rebuilding your proof — case studies, named authors, real numbers — is the one that takes longest and pays back the most, so start collecting the material now even if you can’t publish for a month.
Then take a baseline before you touch anything. Search Console impressions and clicks split by brand and non-brand, current rankings for your ten most commercially important queries, and enquiry volume by source. Four weeks of clean data. Without it, everything that happens next is an argument about opinions.
How long before any of this shows up
Technical fixes move fastest. A resolved indexing problem can show within days of recrawl. Title and content changes typically take two to six weeks to settle. Anything that depends on new pages earning authority — new service pages, new locations, competitive commercial terms — realistically takes three to six months in Dubai, longer in the genuinely contested categories like real estate, legal and cosmetic clinics.
Anyone selling SEO services in Dubai who promises page one in thirty days is either targeting a term nobody searches or is about to do something you’ll pay for later.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my UAE business website not getting any customers?
Usually because it ranks only for your brand name. Check Search Console: if nearly all your clicks come from people typing your company name, you’re being found by people who already knew you. The common causes are targeting the wrong keywords, a single page covering every service, an incomplete Google Business Profile, and slow mobile performance.
How much do SEO services in Dubai cost?
Ongoing retainers for a small business generally start around AED 4,000–6,000 per month, mid-market programmes run AED 8,000–20,000, and competitive e-commerce or multi-location work goes above that. A one-off technical audit is usually AED 5,000–15,000 depending on site size. Be wary of anything far below those bands.
How long does SEO take to work in the UAE?
Technical fixes can show within days. Title and on-page changes typically settle in two to six weeks. New pages competing for commercial terms usually need three to six months, and longer in crowded categories such as real estate, legal services and cosmetic clinics.
Do I need an Arabic version of my website to rank in the UAE?
Not always. It depends on whether your buyers search in Arabic, which varies enormously by sector — consumer services and government-adjacent work, yes; much of B2B tech, less so. Check the language split in your own Search Console data first. If you do build one, it needs proper hreflang and real translation, not a plugin.
Why did my traffic drop after a website redesign?
Almost always missing 301 redirects. When URLs change without one-to-one mapping to their replacements, existing rankings are lost and the decline shows up four to six weeks after launch. Crawl your old URL list, map each to its closest new page, and redirect individually rather than sending everything to the homepage.
Is Google Business Profile more important than my website in Dubai?
For local-intent searches, the local pack sits above organic results and takes most of the clicks, so the profile often matters more for the first contact. It doesn’t replace the site — people click through to check whether you’re real — but a half-finished profile with an inconsistent phone number costs more visibility than most on-page work gains.
Can I fix these SEO problems myself?
Several of them, yes. Completing your Business Profile, correcting your phone number across listings, rewriting titles and meta descriptions, and adding internal links need no tools beyond Search Console. Site speed, indexing issues, redirect mapping and content consolidation usually need someone technical.
Mind Digital has run search programmes for UAE brands including Pfizer, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger and Landmark Group. If you want a second opinion on why your site isn’t converting search demand, look at our SEO services or get in touch and we’ll go through the ten above on your actual site.
