How AI-Powered Search Is Changing Ecommerce SEO Strategies in 2026

Open ChatGPT and type: “best running shoes for flat feet under AED 500, delivered in Dubai.” Then open your own store and look at the product page that should answer that question.

Does it say who the shoe is for? Does it show the price in dirhams, the delivery time to Dubai and whether cash on delivery is available? Or does it say “Experience unmatched comfort” above a size dropdown?

That gap is why so many UAE online stores are losing sales they never see. The shopper never reached a results page, never clicked, never bounced. An AI assistant read a few product pages, picked the ones it could describe with confidence, and wrote a shortlist. If your page couldn’t be described, you weren’t on it.

This is what’s changing for ecommerce SEO, and it’s what a good ecommerce SEO company should be talking to you about this year.

Shoppers now ask questions instead of typing keywords

Classic ecommerce SEO was built around short phrases. “Men’s linen shirts Dubai.” You found the phrase, put it in the title, the H1 and the collection description, and waited.

People still search like that. But a growing share now write something closer to a sentence: “Which air fryer is quiet enough for a small apartment and has a warranty valid in the UAE?” Google’s AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity break that question into several smaller searches, pull back a handful of pages, and assemble an answer from whatever they can lift cleanly.

Nothing on that list is a keyword. It’s noise level, apartment size and warranty. Product pages that mention those things in plain words get used. Pages that only carry a title, a price and a gallery give the system nothing to say.

So the first practical change is boring: write product copy that answers the questions a buyer would actually ask. Who is this for? What size or room does it suit? What’s the warranty and who honours it here? What does it replace or compete with? Two honest paragraphs beat eight bullet points of adjectives.

Your product feed matters as much as your product page

This is the part most store owners find out about late.

For shopping queries, AI systems don’t rely only on crawling pages. Structured product data feeds heavily into what they show: price, availability, brand, GTIN, variants, shipping, returns. Google’s Merchant Center feed is the obvious one. If it’s out of date, if prices on the feed don’t match prices on the page, or if items marked “in stock” sold out last week, you’ll lose trust fast. Systems get cautious about sources that contradict themselves.

Check three things this week:

  • Does the feed match the page? Price, stock and delivery estimate, all identical.
  • Are your identifiers filled in? Missing GTINs and brand names are the most common gap we see on UAE stores, especially those reselling international brands.
  • Is Product schema present and valid on every product page, including offers, availability and review data where you genuinely have reviews?

None of it is exciting. All of it decides whether a machine can describe your product without guessing.

Noon and Amazon.ae will win the generic queries. Stop competing for them

Here’s an opinion that some clients don’t enjoy hearing: if your store sells widely available products, you will not outrank Noon or Amazon.ae for the broad terms, and no AI feature is going to change that. It may make it worse, because the big marketplaces have enormous review volumes and clean feeds, which is exactly what answer engines like.

The better strategy is to be the best answer where marketplaces are weak.

That means specific, comparative and locally qualified queries. “Which sofa fits a 3-metre living room.” “Moisturiser for Dubai summer, no fragrance.” “Same-day delivery cakes in Sharjah.” It means buying guides written by someone who has handled the products, sizing help for the brands you carry, and care advice for UAE conditions like heat, hard water and humidity. A marketplace listing can’t be that specific. You can.

A capable ecommerce SEO company will start by finding which of those queries you can realistically win, rather than handing you a list of 400 high-volume keywords you never will.

The UAE details that generic playbooks miss

A lot of advice on AI search is written for US or UK stores. A few things change here.

Cash on delivery and BNPL belong on the page. Buyers ask assistants whether a store takes COD or Tabby. If that information only appears at checkout, it can’t be quoted. Put payment options, delivery windows by emirate and return terms in plain HTML on product and policy pages.

Arabic is a real opportunity. Many assistants answer Arabic questions from Arabic pages, and good Arabic ecommerce content is thin. Properly written Arabic category pages and buying guides, not machine translation, face much less competition than their English equivalents.

Seasonal demand is violent. Ramadan, Eid, Dubai Shopping Festival and White Friday reshape what people ask for. Publish your gift guides and comparison content weeks before demand arrives, because retrieval systems pick up new pages faster than rankings move.

Check you’re not blocking the machines

This one is embarrassingly common. Plenty of stores sit behind Cloudflare or a security plugin that blocks AI crawlers by default. Others run on themes where product descriptions, reviews or prices only appear after JavaScript loads, and many AI crawlers don’t run JavaScript the way a browser does.

View the raw source of a product page. If the description and price aren’t in it, assume an assistant can’t see them either. Then check your robots.txt and firewall for OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Bingbot. Don’t forget Bing: ChatGPT-style tools lean on it more than most store owners expect, so Bing Webmaster Tools and Bing Places are worth an afternoon.

Reviews and mentions do the persuading

When someone asks for “the best” anything, AI tools are wary of a store praising its own products. They look for corroboration: detailed customer reviews, mentions in local press, forum threads, comparison articles. A store with 300 specific reviews (“fit true to size, arrived in two days to JLT”) will often be quoted ahead of a bigger store with 12 star-only ratings.

So ask for reviews that say something. Follow up after delivery with a question that prompts detail, not just a star click. And keep your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere it appears, because inconsistent details make it harder for a system to treat you as one real company.

How to measure it without a perfect tool

There’s no Search Console for AI answers yet. Do three things instead.

  1. Create a GA4 channel group for referrals from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com.
  2. Write 20 to 30 real shopper questions for your category. Once a month, run them through the main assistants and note which stores and sources get cited. Run each twice, because answers change.
  3. Watch branded search. When people discover you inside an AI answer, many come back later and search your name.

Expect clicks from classic results to dip on informational queries while orders from product and brand searches hold or grow. That’s a different picture from the one most monthly reports show.

What to ask an ecommerce SEO company before you sign

Good questions are simple. How will you check that AI crawlers can read our product pages? How do you handle our product feed and schema? Which queries can we win against Noon and Amazon.ae, and which should we ignore? What’s the plan for Arabic? How do you report results if traffic falls but revenue doesn’t?

If the answers keep returning to domain authority and keyword counts, you’re talking to someone selling 2019. If they ask to see your feed and your top ten revenue-driving products before they quote, you’re probably talking to the right team.

The part that hasn’t changed

Pages still need to load fast on a mid-range phone. Categories still need clean structure. Products still need honest descriptions. AI search didn’t cancel the fundamentals; it made it much more obvious when a store has skipped them.

The stores that do well this year won’t be the ones chasing every new feature. They’ll be the ones whose product pages can answer a real question in two sentences.

Frequently asked questions

How is AI search changing ecommerce SEO?
Shoppers increasingly ask full questions in tools like ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, which assemble shortlists from product pages, feeds and reviews. Ecommerce SEO now has to cover question-led product copy, structured data, clean product feeds and third-party reviews as well as rankings.

What does an ecommerce SEO company do in 2026?
A good ecommerce SEO company handles technical health, category and product page optimisation, structured data and feed quality, AI crawler access, review and mention building, and tracking of both rankings and AI answer visibility.

Do product feeds affect AI shopping results?
Yes. Price, availability, identifiers and shipping data from feeds such as Google Merchant Center influence what shopping surfaces display. Feeds that don’t match your site, or are out of date, reduce trust.

Can a small UAE store compete with Noon and Amazon.ae?
Not on broad head terms. It can win specific, comparative and locally qualified queries, such as sizing, suitability for UAE conditions, delivery by emirate and detailed buying guides.

Does Arabic content help ecommerce SEO in the UAE?
Often, yes. Good Arabic ecommerce content is scarce, so well-written category pages and guides face less competition. It needs to be written properly, not auto-translated.

How do I know if AI tools are recommending my store?
Track referrals from AI platforms in GA4, run a monthly set of real shopper questions through each assistant and log who gets cited, and watch branded search volume for growth.

How long does ecommerce SEO take to work?
Technical and feed fixes can show within weeks. New content for competitive product categories typically takes three to six months, sometimes longer.
